Michael has been fascinated with Pez since childhood and is interested in bringing the character of each dispenser to life. The first Pez dispensers were not created for children. Known as regulars, they were similar in shape to a cigarette lighter, and dispensed a breath mint, as an alternative to smoking. In 1955, the Pez company introduced heads to the top of the dispensers, with Santa Claus and Mickey Mouse among the first.
Pez Study is the result of this ongoing fascination. For this collection, Michael has moved beyond simply the lens, experimenting with other materials and mediums to portray new avenues of expression. This collection contains limited edition giclée prints on Hahnemühle stock, individually proofed by the artist.
Michael was born in New Zealand where he studied Photography. For the last ten years, he has been travelling and documenting his version of the world. Based in London since 2007, Michael aims to capture the things often missed at first glance, bringing new life to the seemingly mundane.
